Work on the pocket prairie at the Food Innovation Center began in the spring of 2023. Annual vegetable crops and some areas of non-native vegetation were removed to make way for drought tolerant native plants to support diverse animal populations. The pocket prairie is a dynamic ecosystem that changes each year.
